P&G Helping Restore Confidence, Dignity To Those Disrupted by Floods in Canada, Central Europe, India

Tuesday, July 2, 2013 10:51 am EDT

Products, clean clothes, batteries, or just a helping hand when and where it’s needed most. These simple acts can help restore a sense of confidence and dignity to those whose lives have been disrupted by disaster.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving lives, P&G employees and brands joined together to help rebuild the communities impacted by recent flooding.

Canada

Last month, powerful rains drenched regions of southern Alberta, Canada, causing the worst flooding in decades. Swollen rivers bulged onto city streets, forcing more than 100,000 people to evacuate their homes. Twenty-five communities in southern Alberta were affected by the floods, with many communities under local states of emergency.

Two Duracell Power Forward trucks began serving the region within days of the flooding, bringing power to the areas of greatest need. The trucks delivered more than 20,000 batteries and provided mobile charging stations to allow people to stay safe and in communication with loved ones.

Tide Loads of Hope opened a free full service laundromat, completing more than 650 loads of laundry to assist those impacted by the floods. The Tide Loads of Hope truck, which launched seven years ago to bring the comfort of clean clothes to victims of Hurricane Katrina, has arrived in High River, Alberta to help those whose resilience and spirit inspired Tide to expand the program across the border.

P&G is also donating more than 300,000 units of various beauty, health and household products – such as Always, Secret, Pantene, OralB, Gillette, Pantene, Herbal Essences, Mr. Clean, Dawn and Puffs – which were packed into personal care kits by volunteer employees in the region.

Central Europe

Exceptionally heavy rainfalls over Europe in June resulted in extreme flooding across the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Thousands of people were evacuated and now must begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

In collaboration with the German Red Cross, Austrian Red Cross and Technischer Hilfsdienst (THW) organizations, P&G Germany, Austria and Switzerland shipped Pampers diapers, Ariel, Lenor, Vizir and Dash products to the places most heavily impacted by the floods. Working with Czech and Slovak Red Cross organizations,P&G Czech Republic/Slovakia sites shipped Ariel, Bonux, Tide, Vizir, JAR/Fairy and Lenor products to the most affected areas.

Additionally, employees are assisting in clean-up efforts as well as contributing via a special employee donation fund established through the German Red Cross.

“We are all still deeply touched by the destruction of the floods,” says Pirjo Väliaho, Vice President, P&G Germany, Austria and Switzerland. ”Many people have lost their home. We provide P&G products to directly help where they are needed most and we donate financial aid to support recovery efforts in the regions. In order to help affected people in the flooded regions back into their everyday routine, we will support the reconstruction work to the best of our ability.”

India

Devastating flash floods and landslides in the northern part of India impacted tens of thousands of people. P&G India teams in Mumbai and Baddi have quickly responded by reaching out to those in need. In collaboration with partner Save the Children, more than 5,000 families were helped with products from Whisper, Oral B, Pantene and Tide. P&G worked with partner Himachal Pradesh Voluntary Health Association to provide Ariel, Head & Shoulders and Pantene in addition to water-proof tents, food and blankets. P&G Purifier of Water is also being delivered to in order to provide safe drinking water to those in need.
