"For years, I’ve heard from my patients about how they want to try menstrual cups, but the options available just didn’t meet their needs – they didn’t feel secure, put pressure on their bladders or just were simply uncomfortable to wear"

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tampax, Procter & Gamble’s leading feminine care brand, introduced today the newest option in its family of period protection products – Tampax Cup, a menstrual cup designed to deliver both comfort and protection without compromises – what women expect from Tampax, down to the small details. Tampax tapped into 80+ years of period protection expertise, research with hundreds of women, and knowledge from experts like a practicing OBGYN to create a menstrual cup that doesn’t require women to settle for good enough for one week every month.

“For years, I’ve heard from my patients about how they want to try menstrual cups, but the options available just didn’t meet their needs – they didn’t feel secure, put pressure on their bladders or just were simply uncomfortable to wear,” said Dr. Megan Kessler, practicing OBGYN and collaborator on the Tampax Cup. “I was excited to partner with Tampax, and leverage the brand’s vast knowledge and resources to create something to meet these needs. Based on our research together, including multiple consumer-use tests, clinical tests, MRI imaging, and real-life tests with women trying the cup, we were able to understand how the smallest details can make a huge difference in the cup’s design and experience for women overall.”

While menstrual cups have existed for decades, more women are considering cups as part of their period routines, yet many still feel like current options don’t meet their protection and comfort needs. Conversations with hundreds of women found that many are settling for a good enough menstrual cup experience and compromising on must-haves like comfort and protection. Clinical research also showed that most menstrual cups available today are longer than the average woman’s vagina or put unnecessary pressure on women’s bladders. With this intel in mind, Tampax set out to design a cup that’s more comfortable for more body types:

  • SoftCurve™ shape that stays in place while reducing pressure on your bladder
  • Width and length chosen based on scientific data of vaginal canal length
  • Reusable 100% medical grade silicone
  • No dyes, perfumes, BPA or latex
  • Sizing customized to your flow, not pre or post-baby
  • Extra grips for easy removal
  • Up to 12 hours of protection
  • And, a compact, durable and discreet carry case

“We’re very proud of Tampax’s long history of innovation that not only meets women’s period needs, but gives them the ability to feel comfortable, safe and confident while on their periods. That’s why only products that have been fully tested and offer something different to meet her needs make it into women’s hands. We weren’t first to introduce menstrual cups as we took the time needed to create something that really delivered what women want and need,” said Rebecca Stoebe-Latham, Senior Scientist, Fem Care R&D. “When developing the Tampax Cup, we tested, tested again, and tested some more until we were confident we created a menstrual cup that truly meets her needs and fits her body down to the smallest but crucial details.”

Available at select retailers nationwide, the cup will come in two sizes, Regular Flow and Heavy Flow. A starter pack with both sizes will also be available so consumers can discover which size would fit them best at different points during their cycle.
